1. Determine the Type of Driving License You Need
- Learner’s License: For beginners.
- Permanent License: After holding a Learner’s License for a minimum of 30 days.
- Commercial License: For driving heavy vehicles or commercial transport.
2. Eligibility Criteria
- Age:
- For motorcycles without gear (below 50cc): Minimum age is 16 years.
- For other vehicles: Minimum age is 18 years.
- For commercial vehicles: Minimum age is 20 years.
- Knowledge: You should know the traffic rules and regulations.
- Documents: You need valid ID and address proof.
3. Prepare the Necessary Documents
- Age Proof: Birth certificate, school certificate, or Aadhaar.
- Address Proof: Voter ID, Aadhaar, utility bill, or rental agreement.
- Passport-sized Photographs: Typically 2–4 photos.
- Medical Certificate: For applicants above 40 years or applying for commercial licenses (Form 1A).
- Application Form: Can be downloaded online or collected from the Regional Transport Office (RTO).
4. Application Process
a. Online Application
- Visit the Parivahan Sewa website.
- Select “Driving License Related Services.”
- Choose your state and follow the prompts.
- Fill out the required forms:
- Form 1: Declaration of physical fitness.
- Form 2: Application for a driving license.
- Upload the required documents and photographs.
- Pay the fees online.
- Book a slot for the Learner’s License test (if applying for the first time).
b. Offline Application
- Visit your nearest RTO.
- Collect and fill out the relevant forms.
- Attach photocopies of the required documents.
- Submit the forms and pay the fees.
- Schedule a test date for the Learner’s License.
5. Learner’s License Test
- Appear for the test on the scheduled date.
- The test typically includes questions on road signs, traffic rules, and regulations.
- If you pass, you will receive your Learner’s License, valid for 6 months.
6. Apply for a Permanent Driving License
- After 30 days (and within 180 days) of receiving your Learner’s License, you can apply for a Permanent License.
- Book a driving test slot online or visit the RTO.
- Practice driving as per the type of vehicle you wish to apply for.
- On the test day, bring your vehicle, Learner’s License, and other required documents.
- The RTO officer will evaluate your driving skills.
7. Driving Test
- Two-Wheeler or Car: You’ll be asked to drive on a predefined track, showcasing skills like reversing, turning, and parking.
- Heavy or Commercial Vehicle: Includes additional maneuvers.
- If you pass, your license will be issued.
8. Receive Your Driving License
- If successful, the Driving License will be sent to your registered address.
- You can track its status online through the Parivahan portal.
